Find out more about hearing aids and whether they could help you.

If you don’t experience issues with your hearing that often or if your hearing loss is gradual then you may not even notice that you are having any issues. Hearing loss can range from mild to severe; however, no matter the extent, hearing loss of any magnitude can often be improved with help from a hearing aid. So, what are the signs that you have hearing loss?

  • Do people often sound like they are mumbling?
  • Do you have to ask people to repeat themselves rather regularly?
  • Do you need to turn up the volume on the TV or radio?
  • Do you have difficulty hearing people on the phone?
  • Do you have difficulty understanding people in loud or noisy environments?
  • Do you find yourself withdrawing from group conversations?
  • Do you find yourself getting frustrated or less social because of your hearing?

If you said “yes” to one or more of these questions, then it’s time to schedule a hearing evaluation with our ENT specialists in Augusta, SC. The sooner you seek treatment the more beneficial a hearing aid will be, since it takes time for your ears to adjust to using this device.

How does a hearing aid work?

All hearing aids consist of three main structures: a speaker, amplifier and microphone. Whenever sound enters the device the microphone detects it and creates electrical signals from it, which are then directed into the amplifier. The purpose of the amplifier is to make the electrical signals stronger and louder. Once the amplifier has made the signals more powerful it sends it through the speaker so that your ear can pick up the sound.

Of course, we offer a variety of different hearing aids that have different styles and features depending on your specific hearing needs. We can sit down and discuss the best options for you so that you can get a hearing aid that will help you enjoy social settings and time with loved ones again.
