Snoring is an undesirable sound that originates from the soft tissues of the upper airway during sleep. It is usually a source of frustration for patients and their bed or dwelling partners, and it may be a warning of something more serious, such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

OSA is a sleep disorder in which airflow is repeatedly reduced or ceased. The disorder may vary in severity and is often associated with other health problems. These problems include, among others, the following:

  • Altered mood and behavior (depression, lethargy, cognitive and memory impairment)
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Diabetes
  • Heart attack
  • High blood pressure which requires multiple medications to control
  • Obesity
  • Morning headaches
  • Sleep-related arrhythmias (ah-RITH-me-ahs), or irregular heartbeats
  • Stroke

Sleep apnea is a chronic condition that requires long-term management. Lifestyle changes, mouthpieces, surgery, and/or breathing devices are a few of the interventions that successfully treat sleep apnea in many people.

We know there's no one-size-fits-all approach, so our recommendations are guided by a diagnosis unique to you, and only after thoughtful reflection by our staff of board-certified doctors.
